New Art Exhibits at ICC

Two new art shows opened today at the ICC East Peoria campus. They will run from February 17 through March 11, 2016.

The first, an exhibition of the works of artist Michael Hopkins featuring X-ray images and will be displayed in the lobby of the ICC Performing Arts Center. His series of images has been featured in colleges and universities throughout the Midwest. Hopkins received his bachelor of fine arts in 1985 from the The School of the Art Institute in Chicago and currently resides in the Chicago area. Since 2010 his painting and drawings have been part of permanent collections including The Art Institute of Chicago, the University of Ann Arbor, Michigan and Notherwestern University in Evanston. He also has permanent collections in several museums including the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Pete, FL, and the Milwaukee Art Museum. Hopkins is the 2003 recipient of a Pollack-Krasner Foundation grant and eight pieces of his work appear in the book Artworks: The Progressive Collection, which has been ranked by Forbes magazine as one of the best corporate art collections in the world.

In addition to Hopkins works, the paintings of artist P.J. Mills will be on display in Gallery 336B in the Academic building. Mills earned his bachelor of fine art in painting from the University State College in Buffalo, NY and a masters of fine art from Cornell University in Ithica, NY. He currently resides in FL. Mills is the recipient of the Andrew D. White Grant for the Visual and Performing Arts and was awarded a fellowship in painting while enrolled at Cornell. According to Mills, his art features “things that I can’t seem to get my mind off of until I have finished painting them.” His exhibit A Few of My Favorite Things represents visual metaphors for identity, self-preservation and mortality that emerge from the examination of common objects and how they relate to an “intimate” human condition. Mills has participated in group and solo exhibitions across the U.S. including, South Carolina, New York, Georgia, Kentucky, California, Louisiana, Florida and North Carolina.

Hours of operation for the galleries are:

  • Gallery 336 B – Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 5 pm and Friday from 9 am to noon.
  • Performing  Arts Gallery – Monday through Thursday from 9:30 am to 7:30 pm and Friday from 9:30 am to noon.
