The weekend of September 23-25 was an immense weekend for the Illinois Central College Cougars Golf team.

On Friday, September 23rd, the Cougars traveled to Ogelsby, Illinois to play in the IVCC Invitational at Senica’s Deer Park Golf Club.

Seth Rebbe, a sophomore on the Cougars Golf team shot a 69 and finished second overall individually. Rebbe said, “I didn’t have my best day driving the ball as I only hit two fairways, but had a good day putting and had some luck on my side, which is key for a good round.” The team played very well and shot a 291 and was in first after the first day. “I was very happy with how everything was going and the teams’ score of 291 was the best score the team has had since I started golfing for ICC in the fall of 2015.”

Jake Plummer, a sophomore on the Cougars Golf team shot a 79. Even though a 79 isn’t a very great score for Plummer, he said “I kept a positive attitude and cheered on the team because they played well and picked me up, and led the tournament after the first day.”

On Saturday, September 24th, Illinois Central played at Senica’s Oak Ridge Golf Club in LaSalle, Illinois.

Rebbe shot a 72, and he said “I didn’t really struggle with much, just didn’t get as many breaks as I did the day before, but still had a good day on the greens.” The team struggled on Saturday and finished 4th overall.

Plummer shot an 80. Plummer said, “Both days were extremely frustrating, but I believe I kept my composure about as well as I could considering how poorly I was playing.”

On Sunday, the Cougars traveled to Lincoln, Illinois for their biggest test of the weekend, the MWAC Conference Tournament at Lincoln Elks Country Club.

The Conference Tournament was a Ryder Cup format, where each hole is won by the team whose individual golfer has the lowest score. Plummer shot a 70 and lead the Cougars to a conference title. Plummer said, “I got off to a rough start by making bogey on the first two holes, but remained positive and finished under par by the end of the round.” Plummer was one of five to be named All Conference. Plummer says that being named All Conference is “extremely humbling.” The team won the conference title by 4 strokes over Parkland. Plummer says that “the team made a great effort and that everyone contributed to this memorable team victory.”
