Illinois Central College’s English Honor Society, Sigma Kappa Delta hosting book drive as part of new Reading Rangers program.

“Reading Rangers is the brainchild of the SKD officers to help promote a love a reading and literacy in the future generation of ICC students,” SKD liaison and Operation Teddy Bear co-founder Rebecca Richardson said. “Each child will receive 1-2 age appropriate books, along with a custom dressed stuffed animal. Our aim is to introduce them to the classics like Dr. Seuss, the Berenstain Bears, Shel Silverstein and others while giving them a cute, stuffed reading companion.”

SKD is partnering with local charity Operation Teddy Bear, which provides free stuffed animals to children and adults, for the book drive.

The English Honor Society will be accepting donations of children’s books from Sept. 21 to Oct. 12 with drop boxes located in front of, room 302A, the Studio and the Library. The boxes will be labeled with a Reading Rangers poster on them. The collected books will be distributed shortly thereafter to children aged 6-10 throughout local schools.

Students and faculty can place gently used, age-appropriate books in any of the three drop box locations. Any additional questions should be emailed to Rebecca Richardson at  rr495@lab.icc.edu.
